AND: Richard Niessen
(1972) and Esther de Vries
(1974) form a design studio based in Amsterdam. They consciously shape what they call the "in-between place": they see their designs as common areas where differences and opposites can come together and unite. This humanistic view leads to work that is diverse and inclusive: not schematic, but rich and highly stratified, with a mixture of functions. In this way Niessen & de Vries strive for actual involvement of the viewer and in that sense their designs are always interactive.
Niessen & de Vries complement each other as individual designers and work together as a team on several projects including their series 1:1:1
